vLLM-Omni joins the SophyAI catalog

One inference server for text, images, audio, video and actions. SophyAI adds it as a catalog reference, separate from standard vLLM.

vLLM-OmniMultimodalOpenSourceInference

vLLM-Omni is joining the SophyAI inference-server catalog. It is an Apache 2.0 project from the vLLM community designed to serve models that go beyond text: image, audio, video and action understanding and generation, alongside traditional text output.

Why it is not simply vLLM

vLLM was created for autoregressive language-model generation. vLLM-Omni extends that runtime to heterogeneous pipelines and non-autoregressive architectures, including Diffusion Transformers. It can coordinate multiple stages, overlap their execution and move multimodal payloads between separate components.

The official supported-model list includes families such as Qwen3-Omni, MiniCPM-o 4.5, Qwen-Image, Z-Image, Wan, LTX, MiniMax H3, several TTS models and robot policies. This makes it possible to use one serving architecture for workloads that previously required separate servers.

APIs and integration

The server exposes OpenAI-compatible APIs where the model supports them. The official quickstart shows Z-Image Turbo, for example, with:

vllm serve Tongyi-MAI/Z-Image-Turbo --omni --port 8091

and the POST /v1/images/generations endpoint. The project also supports streaming and, for selected models, realtime full-duplex audio conversations.

How it enters SophyAI

vLLM-Omni is now a separate engine from vLLM in the catalog. The first integration is deliberately classified as a reference:

  • the server and its documentation are available in the catalog;
  • no one-click cloud session is offered yet;
  • we do not publish unmeasured GPU, throughput or cost estimates;
  • every future recipe will pin the model, vLLM/vLLM-Omni versions, hardware, endpoints and readiness tests.

This distinction prevents a misleading promise: upstream support does not mean that a model has already been validated on a specific machine. The next step is to measure the first end-to-end recipe and make it launchable from the platform.

One control plane, more modalities

For SophyAI, the opportunity is clear: keep text models, image and video generators, speech synthesis and omni-modal systems under the same local control, without handing data and workflows to external APIs. vLLM-Omni expands the range of models that can join this architecture.
